Somatic Classes

Sometimes healing begins by listening to your body.

Why the Body Holds the Key

Emotions are experienced as physiological signals throughout the body that influence — and often hijack — our thoughts and behaviours. Anxiety can tighten the chest, grief can feel heavy, shame can make us want to disappear, and stress can leave the whole nervous system braced for what might happen next. Very often, our instinct is to escape, avoid, suppress, or numb these sensations.

But what if, instead, you could learn to regulate the body with the body?

What Somatic Classes Look Like

Our somatic classes help members develop that capacity through gentle movement, breathwork, mobility, mindfulness, grounding, and nervous system regulation practices. The goal is not simply to calm down in the moment — with practice, we want regulation and self-soothing to become increasingly familiar and intuitive, so your body begins to recognize how to return to safety and regulation.

Reconnecting With Your Body

For people who experienced emotional or physical neglect, this can be particularly meaningful. When soothing, comfort, and attunement were not consistently available early in life, we may reach adulthood without ever having learned how to offer those experiences to ourselves. Somatic practice helps build this capacity from the inside, allowing you to pair the compassion you develop through therapy with the physical experience of soothing, safety, and care.

Trauma, abuse, chronic stress, shame, and body distress can also leave us disconnected from our bodies or in hypervigilant states of tension and surveillance. We may stop noticing hunger, fatigue, tension, discomfort, or the subtle cues telling us what we need. Somatic work gently invites that connection back.

Over time, the aim is to become more present in your body, more responsive to its signals, and more able to move through the world from a place that feels grounded, connected, and intuitively your own.
